Phillippe is an elusive and reclusive singer/ songwriting talent, pushing musical boundaries and extending himself further than most are prepared to go.
Along with a unique vocal style and sound, his multi instrumental and recording/ production skills have proved him worthy of being labeled an accomplished musician. This is further consolidated with the fact that he has had no musical training, was entirely self taught and cannot read a note of music!
After first being spotted at the 1997 MOBO awards, Phillippe was signed to smooth soul label Expansion records and was commissioned by Ralph Tee to produce an eclectic self produced debut album. The finished album Long Long Road was described as “a breath of fresh air in a stale urban scene” by Q magazine and the debut Single Listen 2 Me was hailed as “too classy for todays market” by Blues and Soul magazine.
He immediately began writing the next set of songs which was to form the basis of the next album. He parted with his manager after a few “bad calls” and set about signing to Acid Jazz records where he was hailed as “the next International Soul Star from the UK” by Ed Piler (the man behind Jamiroquai).
After a promotional trip to Russia with Acid Jazz there followed six months of inactivity and it was then that he decided to break out of his contract to continue recording and writing on his own which he continues to this day.
The UK has enjoyed many pioneering artists in the past but very few have been able to boast full production credits on their debut album.
